Filmed in Kenya's capitol city, the video is an ode to this "beautiful city in the sun" and a plea for peace and celebration of shared destiny. The video captures a picturesque portrait of iconic and historic monuments of Nairobi as it explores the everyday life of the city. Dawuni serves as a traveling minstrel, journeying across neighborhoods, bearing a message of goodwill.

Blessed with easy-going charisma, the musician and United Nations Foundation Ambassador  has performed and collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel, Bono, Jason Mraz, Janelle Monae and John Legend, among many others. Named one of Africa's Top 10 global stars by CNN, he's showcased his talent around the world at major festivals and prestigious venues such as The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and Lincoln Center in NYC.

What's up next for Africa's shining star? Stay tuned...

Sharon Tucker

Sharon is blessed not only with melody and well trained vocal chords, but sings with a sweet, distinctive voice that is synonymous with a family of very talented singing legends, including the classical singer Jimmy Tucker, her uncle; popular reggae/gospel singer Junior Tucker, her brother and Nikki Tucker, her sister.

Sharon definitely stands out as a performer.  Years of constant training and tuning her voice has rewarded her audiences with memorable performances.  On her tour of South Africa with gigs in Durban and Johannesburg, she was described with headlines like “incredible” and her styling compared to a song bird.  Janet Smith, writing for ‘Culture Watch,’ wrote, "….for the uninhibited, the power of Jamaican songstress Sharon Tucker’s voice welled tears in the eye. She sings about God and loving your brothers and sisters -- good values that are seldom practiced in this corner of the world."

For Sharon, performing live for celebrities is her forte - -whether it is for the Prime Minister's Gala for Ghanaian President, Agyckum Kufuor or Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, Cuban President, Fidel Castro, and other Heads of State for the Caribbean, or if it be at the massive gatherings of her brothers and sisters, she takes it all in stride and usually makes a lasting impression.  Her tours have included the Caribbean, North America, Europe and Africa.  Doing back up and stunts with the Soul Syndicate Band was one of her earlier exposes of the music in transition; there she gained a lot of experience.  She also did backing vocals with many veteran reggae acts like Bunny Wailer, Dennis Brown, Junior Delgado, Judy Mowatt and Junior Tucker, to name a few.

Her solo career was only a natural progression to such an illustrious background. Her debut album “Your Love,” included musicians like Freddie McGregor, Dalton Brownie and Sly Dunbar and was released in Japan by Overheat Records.  Her second album, "Pass It On," is perennial as the evergreen and as the voice that covers it. While living in London, she also did several singles for Jet Star Music.  She was also featured as part of a compilation album for London-based producer Adrian Sherwood with the likes of Sinead O'Connor, Junior Delgado, Little Roy and several European and African contributions.

Sharon has just completed her third album, “In Your Time,” which will be distributed digitally thru Itunes, Amazon, Napster and Rhapsody, via Zojak World Wide and will be released on December 2nd, 2010.  The album consists of 15 tracks, all attesting to her wonderful talent and the exceptional quality of the music.  She is the executive producer on this album and it will be released on her own label, ‘Appy Music.  Some of the producers who worked on the album were the very talented Sly & Robbie, Rorey “One Pop” Baker, Christopher Birch,  Gibby, Steve Golding  and Kirk Bennett (Kirkledove).  She released and did videos of two singles from the album, “Give A Little Love ” (Ojambu Music/321 Strong) and “Caution” (Kirkledove), earlier this year, with both receiving strong radio and television airplay.

Sharon Tucker continues to mesmerize her audiences with her sweet melodic voice, her humbling personality and her experience as a true artist. Love her and be loved, listen to her and be absorbed -- if even for as long as it takes for her performance to end -- one thing is for sure, you will remember that you heard her.

Humboldt Reggae Artist Jade Steel Takes the Spotlight

By Shelah Moody

Jade Steel is not your average reggae singer. His music combines the best of traditional Jamaican music and the reggae-loving vibes of the Emerald Triangle—Humboldt County, Mendocino County and Trinity, CA.  Along with writing and producing his own music, the soulful roots, rock reggae artist also illustrates his own CD covers and graphic novels.
Steel has performed at internationally renown music festivals such as Reggae on the River, Reggae Rising, Popkomm in Berlin, Germany  and De Bus in Jamaica to name a few. Recently, he left the audience wanting more when he opened for West African singer Fely Tchaco at a peace concert presented by the AfroSolo Theatre Company in San Francisco.  See Youtube clip
Steel is currently on tour promoting his latest CD “Children of Humboldt.”  On Sunday, July 17, Steel will perform at the 27th annual Reggae on the River Festival in Humboldt County. The talented singer/songwriter/producer will be accompanied by Humboldt County’s Emerald Triangle Band.
“I’m very proud of Humboldt,” said Steel.  “I look forward to singing for the people of my hometown; it will be fun to show everyone what I've been up to. We've been pretty secretive of this new album. I think it's going to be great. I feel honored to be a part of this years Reggae on the River Festival.”

Q: Tell me how your family ended up in Humboldt County? What was it like growing up there?

A: My Father was from Hells Kitchen New York; he grew up with James Baldwin, Little Richard and many others. He passed away before we really got to know each other too well. We moved up from San Francisco, my mom was tired of cooking for a commune of people. I think they just wanted to get away from it all.  Growing up there was nice until I got older. I needed more culture and sophistication so I ended up traveling across the world seeking adventure and knowledge through music. I was in my own band since age 15; Corrupted Youth, then Cold Steel followed by Jade Steel & Emerald Triangle band.

Q: What is the inspiration behind your upcoming CD: “Children of Humboldt?” Who are the Children of Humboldt?

A: It's an homage to my hometown. The CD was going to be called "Diamond in the Rough," but "Children of Humboldt" made more sense. The Children of Humboldt are the ones who grow up there. Some leave, most of them grow up. Many have died due to the weed industry and the theft behind the scenes. In my song "Children of Humboldt," I say, "I want to send out all my praises, to the children who are missing, if you hear these words I'm saying, I wanna thank you all for listening."

Q: Talk about the producers, musicians and DJs who worked with you on “Children of Humboldt."

A: My producer is Andre Jonson. I've worked with DJ Matteo Rizetta, DJ Steffan Franz, and more.

Q: Who are some of your biggest musical and spiritual influences?

A: I have thousands of albums in my collection-- from rock to reggae, from Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Slayer, Metallica, Incubus, Seal, and the Police to reggae bands such as  Bob Marley, Maxi Priest, Jimmy Cliff, Tarrus Riley, Gregory Isaacs and so much more. I consider myself to be a reflection of many. We all hear the same music with different ears. We all will sing our own song. Spiritual influences? Many as well, I'm not super religious but very spiritual. However I've found that it is better to not talk about my beliefs too loudly. It raises too many skeptical questions and debates that become personal. I love many religions and consider them to be a learning tool. I'm a true rocker to the bone and proud of it. If people need to believe in something that makes them feel stronger, I feel that is a choice and I approve of that choice whatever it may be  even though I may not always agree with it.

Q: You have so many musical choices. Why reggae?

A: I don't feel I'm just a reggae artist. Our music is also designed for big rock arenas. My goal is also to be in rock festivals all over the world. I just love reggae as well, why not? Johnny Cash did it. Bob Dylan's doing it. If you listen closely to my music you will hear that I am really into rock and roll. Reggae is cool, I like the vibes but this album is about my art and was meant to be a healing album for me. I never expected it to turn out as powerful as it has become.
A lot has happened to me in the past five years; my father passed away, I was robbed and I was injured. I fell backwards off of a mountain and broke my leg. I was told I might not ever been able to walk the same again. My true passion is rock. I don't want people to get the wrong idea, I can do both. I grew up around the world famous "Reggae on the River" festival that takes place every summer.  I appreciate reggae music. In Jamaica, I've heard them say I sound like a white Luciano. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luciano_(singer) I've also heard elders compare me to a Rasta man, but I do not consider myself this. I have too much respect for the true Rastas to front like that. I'm an artist and hope people will love me for just being that. In the words of Ziggy Marley "I've got to be true to myself."

Q: Tell me about the story behind “Machete” from “Children of Humboldt” and how the late Lucky Dube inspired you to write the song?

A: I was devastated behind the news of Lucky Dube's killing. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Dube) So I wanted to write a song for Africa. Lucky influenced me on this. However this song is for Africa. The lyrics are:  “Don't forget those taken away, fallen prey to, Machete.”  It is much deeper than one person. I hate what is going on there. People should not be burned and hacked up into pieces for their beliefs or because they didn't vote for some warlord they don't believe in. Sometimes I feel so helpless, so I write songs that will hopefully be heard and make people think. “He was a soldier most his life, who dreams of wife and child”  is the first line in the song. I'm glad this will be out. People need to hear this kind of stuff. It's really happening, even now as you read this.

Q: What has been your experience like, traveling back and forth to Jamaica?

A: Jamaica is a magical country; very inspirational. I have many friends there and have always loved the Jamaicans and reggae music. Like I mentioned before, I have too much respect for Rastafarians to front like I am one. I feel I'm a people person. It's always fun to travel to the islands and I love performing my songs. I feel blessed, to be well received. In Negril, Jamaica, I opened some shows with my now dearly departed friend (Chellem Bassie) for Yellowman, Culture, Ken Boothe and many more. For this and more I give thanks and praises everyday. I will never forget my experiences in Jamaica. The last time I was there, my producer, Andre Jonson, and I ran into Jimmy Cliff at an ital food shack near the airport in Montego Bay. One of the thing's I didn't appreciate in Jamaica was the way certain restaurants and hotels treated the locals; friends I made who were not allowed or had no interest in stepping foot within because they were too poor or simply "not allowed." It was evident to me that segregation still existed on some levels and in many places. There were places that only catered to tourists. This bugged me and I soon became leery of places where the staff had to wear the same color patterned shirts.

Q: As an environmentalist, what is Jade Steel doing to save the planet?

A: I always do what I can, from recycling, to helping the homeless, from Goodwill to donating a percentage of this new album to saving the rain forests. I consider myself a true environmentalist in the fact I'm always trying to make a difference. Long ago, I learned to scuba dive and since then on every dive I've always grabbed some trash from the ocean floor each time. Also on land, if I see trash I try to stop and pick it up. Singing and trying to heal the world through positive music is always a good start. I've fed the homeless and needy many times in my walk of life. I give when I can and when I can't I don't beat myself up too bad because when I can I do. I wish more people would do the same. I've always detested people who litter Mother Earth.

'Reggae 4 Japan' Gets New Date and Heavy Line Up

New York, New York -- April 11, 2011--Leading Japanese sound system and ambassador of Reggae music Mighty Crown and their management team Irish and Chin, in conjunction with VP Records, media partner IrieJam Radio and Japanese corporate sponsors Nine Rulaz Line, Woofin' Magazine, Yokohama Trading, 24x7 Records,
Rockers Island and Nesta Clothing, have anchored a new date of June 5, 2011 for the "Reggae 4 Japan" benefit concert at York College in Queens, New York and a heavy line of leading Reggae artists including Maxi Priest, Freddie McGregor and the Big Ship Family, Capleton, Tarrus Riley, Gramps Morgan, Peter Morgan, Alaine, Tanya Stephens, and Etana -- backed by the Ruff Kutt band.  Additional acts are being confirmed, which will make this quite a powerful event.  Since the announcement of "Reggae 4 Japan" more than two weeks ago to rally the Reggae community in support of Japan's earthquake relief,  an overwhelming amount of enthusiasm has ensued.  To better accommodate involvement of artists and music industry professionals, a new date was identified.

International Reggae singer Maxi Priest says, "Japan is like home and family, as I have been going to Japan since the mid 80's.....I have a lot of close friends in Japan and know people who are directly affected by the disaster."  "Japan has done a lot for the reggae industry, so I am unquestionably involved with 'Reggae 4 Japan' because of my connection and for the sheer love of humanity," concludes Maxi Priest.

"I have been touring Japan for over 25 years and have gone there more than any other artist except Maxi Priest......my first time there was in 1985 for Japan's first Reggae Sunsplash," says iconic Reggae singer Freddie McGregor.  "Since then, I have been traveling to Japan at least 4 times a year....thankfully, I have been extremely popular in Japan due to promotions and recording. I have to give back because of my strong connection to Japan over the years."

"In this life, it's all about helping each other....when one is in trouble -- you reach out and help," says Masta Simon, co-owner of Mighty Crown.  "I am forever grateful for the support of the Reggae community in this effort......with such a great need for relief in Japan, I am calling out to all people to help."  "Regardless of one's connection to Japan -- be it Reggae music, electronics, automotive, fashion, etc. -- I am calling on everyone to come out and support," Masta Simon adds passionately.

There has been great devastation in Japan since the earthquake of March 11, which resulted in a barrage of horrific consequences including a tsunami, nuclear power plant explosions and partial meltdown, aftershocks and subsequent earthquakes in April.  Japan's need of assistance is great, as the country aims to repair nuclear plants, provide shelter/food/necessities to citizens, ensure medical care, clean debris and rebuild. To support the ongoing efforts of their homeland in the wake of the disaster, Mighty Crown has been dedicated to converging the Reggae music industry to support Japan.  "Reggae 4 Japan" willsupport humanitarian efforts in Japan, as Mighty Crown will donate proceeds to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief.

Mighty Crown, who was in Japan at the time of the Earthquake, witnessed the impact of the disaster on their homeland. Passionate about aiding Japan, Mighty Crown reached out to the Reggae community and they responded without hesitation.  It's clear that Reggae music is a universal music and force that unites all people. Just as Japan wholeheartedly supports Reggae music and culture, the Reggae music industry/fans support Japan.

Top Reggae music label VP Records has stepped in to give a hand with "Reggae 4 Japan" by urging the involvement of their artists.  As Japan has been a large consumer of VP Records music and home to one of their international offices, they have forged strong ties with Japan over the years.  IrieJam Radio also graciously vowed to garner involvement of radio outlets in the Tri-State area by coordinating advertising efforts and interviews. Other radio stations who have made a bold commitment to "Reggae 4 Japan" include Red Hot Radio, Roadblock Radio and Busy Radio.  All will ensure that "Reggae 4 Japan" is well promoted and attended.

About Ben E. Hunter:

Ben E. Hunter’s music represents the best of New Orleans. The NOLA born artist combines elements of jazz, folk, rock, Mardi Gras Indian chants and Caribbean rhythms to create a unique and unforgettable sound. A popular fixture on the New Orleans club circuit, which draws people from around the globe, Hunter has toured the world, from Central America to South Africa, performing at large scale musical events such as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica.
Hunter’s discography includes “Reality Check” (1992), “Soul Avenger: Live Intergalactic,” (1999), “Voodoo Reggae,” (2006), the post-Katrina recording “Traveler: A Healing Album for the City of New Orleans” (2008) and more.
Hunter is gearing up for the release of his new album, “Delta Dub,” recorded at the famed Jack Ruby studios in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
Producer Native Wayne Jobson describes “Delta Dub” as Bob Marley meets Dr.  John meets Lil’ Wayne. Each track on “Delta Dub” is a winner--from the rootical “Wars and Lies” to the achingly romantic “All I Live For” to Hunter’s Rasta/funky cover of Donovan’s “Sunshine Superman.” “Delta Dub” brings together stellar producers and musicians such as Native Wayne and Brian Jobson, Neil Case and Barry O’Hare.
A Hurricane Katrina survivor, Hunter temporarily relocated to Los Angeles in 2005, where he was the subject of the Sledgehammer Films documentary “Baptized at Katrina: A Refugee Story.”  In 2004, Hunter sang on the soundtrack of the film “Skeleton Key,” starring Kate Hudson.  In 2010, he appeared in the first season of the award-winning HBO series “Treme.”
Hunter’s musical influences include Burning Spear, Lee “Scratch” Perry, dub poet Mutabaruka and Curtis Mayfield. Among many things, Hunter is a survivor; overcoming struggles with poverty, violence in his community and the devastation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He has been outspoken about his ongoing struggle with epilepsy. When it comes to his inspirations, Hunter sees his original songs and poetry as reflections of daily life:
"I often write about friends or people around me who have many social and emotional experiences everyday."
