Glen Washington Masterpiece

Now a then I hear a reggae artist that makes me smile. Glen Washington happens be one of those artists. DJ Michael Ealey told me to check him out. I’m so glad he turned me on to this talented, amazing artist. Glen Washington is a spiritual singer that has a message in his music. Glen Washington’s vocals are husky and raspy, that has that soulful old school quality. Born in the parish of Clarendon Jamaica, Glen Washington has been in the reggae music scene since the early 1970s. I can see why, his music is awesome! Glen Washington made his first hit record “Rockers Not Crackers” in 1978. It took him 20 years to release another hit single “Kindness For Weakness”. While writing this blog, I’m listening to his past albums as well as his newest album. I can say I have not heard a song I don’t like. I can’t believe I have never heard of Glen Washington. With Glen Washington’s “Masterpiece” album you can’t go wrong. He delivers a strong album that is amazing, wonderful and spiritual. If you like Reggae artists that are easy to understand and has a message in their music, then Glen Washington is an artist you should check out. I’m putting him on the top of my play list. The Masterpiece album gets 5 out of 5 stars from me. You can listen to “Masterpiece” on Streetwise Radio’s Big Splif’s 420 Reggae. You can also listen to Streetwise Radio on Athena365, MyGen365, ITunes and Live365. Also available on Pandora.

Irie Maffia

Biography

Having been formed in 2005, Irie Maffia soon became a firm favourite with the young party-goers of Budapest, which can hardly be considered a surprise given the powerful medley of reggae, hip-hop, rock and funk they play, and the impressive line-up in terms of the Hungarian underground-music scene. Sena, Busa and Columbo are all well-known figures of Budapest nightlife. Among the musicians are such names as Dermot, the ingenious bandleader and trombone-player, or Jumo Daddy, the Hammond organ wizard.

The band has performed at practically every festival in Hungary imaginable, while their sound system formation (consisting of the DJs and MCs of the band) has been kept busy by the clubs of the country.

The memorable full house release party of the Mafia’s first LP, Fel a kezekkel! (Hands in the air), took place on A38, a popular party boat in Budapest, in December, 2007.

Irie Maffia's first video clip, shot for their most popular song, Hands In the Air, came out by the spring of 2008.

In autumn 2008 the Irie Maffia was one of the 5 nominees for MTV European Music Awards Local Hero in Hungary.

The band's sound system formation holds weekly club nights in Corvin teto, offering awesome reggae music to the Tuesday night audience of the venue.

The popularity of Irie Maffia, however, is by no means restricted to the borders of Hungary. Their first recording in 2006 made use of a dancehall riddim, the Rodeo riddim (formerly made popular by the mighty Seeed), which was released by Germaica Records, Europe’s leading reggae/dancehall record company.

To make the most of the success, the Maffia went on tour to several European destinations, amongst which was the Italian Rototom Sunsplash in 2007, probably the greatest reggae competition of the continent. They came in second with an outstanding performance after the local Italian heroes, which was an immense achievement in the light of the fact that they had had to convince a thoroughly orthodox jury with their rather eclectic and innovative kind of music.

Blacker

BLACKER PRESS RELEASE
Innovator, The girls DJ, Mr. Mix-up and Blender, God of Slangs, Mr. New Talk. Just a few of the name used to describe the DJ born Donte Dawyer, formally known as Blacka Ranks, now known as Blacker. If you want to know what's new or what's clicking in the dancehall, just talk to Blacker for two minutes. Whether he created it or not, he has them all locked. 'Ah suh di ting set up'. 'nuh duh mi dat'... 'how dat drop een'. 'Yuh suppose to'. 'of course'. 'wid attitude' . he has them all. Many to this day do not know that it was Blacker who coined the world renowned phrase 'Toppa-top' (Top of the top). But ask Bounty Killer and he will tell you Blacker was first to use it.
And if you think Blacker is light weight, ask Sound System selector ace Tony Materhorn about the night Blacker went toe-to-toe with his mentor, Grammy ace Shabba Ranks, to the delight of all girls who were present. Donte will proudly tell you when he was asked by a promoter to close a show that Jodeci had performed on at the height of their career.
Mr. Been There, Done that. and now he is back with hit after hit, song after song. After the mega international hit 'A gal jus a watch yuh' (with Alton Blacka) in the mid 1990's, Blacker is kicking again with Attitude, Run di Place Look, Tek Off Supm, Ting Deh, Blue Bomber and many more.
There is one thing every man wishes he could do consistently. Well. one of the many things most men wish they could do. That is always knowing the right thing to say to a girl to make her smile. Donte has mastered that art with the lines he comes up with in the hooks of his songs. This ability has brought him admiration from fans all across the female spectrum, from female radio personalities, Christian women and even the elderly lasses. And he has never detracted from the topic of women. Donte has never recorded a song that was not about girls. Never!! And it would seem that the immediate future holds of the same for the real toppa-top Girls dem DJ. As he would put it "Dem seh dem hype, but nobody hype like Blacker."
